The councilor of the PIL in the Arrecife City Council, Miguel Ángel Hernández, presented his resignation this Wednesday morning. Hernández was in charge of the Department of Cleaning, Parks and Gardens, and will continue to head this area until next Monday, September 13, when his resignation becomes effective. Moreover, he is currently working in the department.
With this resignation, the government group in the Arrecife City Council loses its majority again. The mayor's casting vote, Cándido Reguera, will be fundamental to carry out the proposals that are taken to the plenary session, until the new one from the PIL list, José Carmelo Santana Santana, assumes the position of councilor.
Miguel Ángel Hernández has presented his resignation citing personal reasons. In this way, the rumors that had been circulating for weeks have been confirmed this Wednesday. According to sources from the formation, Miguel Ángel Hernández had already communicated to the PIL leadership his intention to abandon the position, so the resignation has not been a surprise. According to ACN Press, the PIL spokesperson in the City Council, Emilia Perdomo, has indicated that the councilor had not adapted to municipal management.
Miguel Ángel Hernández had assumed the position of PIL councilor on February 1 along with Isabel Mesa replacing Ubaldo Becerra and José Miguel Rodríguez. Both resigned after being charged and arrested in the framework of Operation "Unión". However, despite having spent several months in prison, before resigning from their position, they made possible the approval of the motion of censure that brought Cándido Reguera to power.
The sixth of the PIL to resign
Miguel Ángel Hernández is the sixth of the PIL to resign in the Arrecife City Council during this legislature. In addition, the resignations within this party have been surrounded by controversy. Thus, Ubaldo Becerra, José Miguel Rodríguez, Antonio Machín and Luisa Blanco have resigned during this time, leaving their positions for being involved in the "Unión" case. Antonio Hernández also resigned, leaving his position after making public the "disloyalty demonstrated by his own PIL colleagues in this City Council".
Thus, at this moment, the PIL only has two councilors, Emilia Perdomo and Amor Castañeyra, since the beginning of the legislature.
