The Cabildo of Lanzarote has proceeded to the awarding of the service contract for the Drafting of the Architectural Intelligent and Sustainable Lighting Design Project of the Historic Artistic Site of the Castillo de San Gabriel de Arrecife, its path and drawbridge, to the company Abad Lighting Design Studio for an amount of 5,307 euros.

The project, which is included within the Blue Conurban Strategy financed through the FEDER Regional Development Funds, seeks to approach new technologies, will use LED luminaires in its entirety and must obtain "an enormous energy saving by implementing new lighting systems" reducing energy consumption "by 80% as a minimum", according to the institution.

As established in the technical specifications, the incorporation of LED luminaires and the control system must allow the design of different lighting scenes in an intelligent way, facilitating installation and maintenance tasks.

Restoration of the bridge and the path

The vice president and councilor of Coordination and Projects, Jacobo Medina, points out that taking into account the protection enjoyed by the Castillo de San Gabriel, "the intervention must adhere to the current criteria for the conservation of assets of cultural interest, where the architectural value, the adaptation to the physical environment or the adequacy of the cost to the action, are going to be fundamental aspects of the project with which it is intended to highlight the singularities of this monument".

In this same sense, the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, has stated, convinced that the nocturnal ornamental lighting "will allow the Castle and the accesses to be revalued in the first term, but also the entire bay of the capital because, together, they form one of the most impressive and beautiful images of our capital".

The project, included within the Smart Lighting line of the Sustainable Development Strategy, will be executed under the supervision of the Historical Heritage Service. The action, for which an investment of 60,279 euros is contemplated, will be executed in parallel and in coordination with the restoration of the bridge and its path in order to act "more efficiently, combining and centralizing efforts".
