Campers joined this Sunday in a new protest caravan. This time it was not only to demand the opening of the Papagayo campsite, but also to demand camping areas on the island of Lanzarote. More than 100 vehicles participated in this tour, which started from the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The president of the campers of San Juan, José Saavedra, assured this Monday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that the protest "was a success, given the multitude of people who attended." In addition to this group, those affected by the closure of the Papagayo campsite and the Lanzarote Motorhome Association also participated.
"We were all very happy, because in Lanzarote there are still many families who support this activity. When I was at the head of the demonstration, I called to see what the queue was like. And I was going through the Puerto Naos roundabout and the caravan was arriving behind the Betancores (that is, in the area of the Cabildo, where the protest began). It was spectacular, because it was also calm, peaceful and there were no incidents," he highlighted.
Saavedra explained that during the tour they saw families "with banners and signs waiting for the protest to support it". "In the area of La Villa, the people who visited the market applauded and supported us," he indicated.
The protests will continue next Sunday. "We want to go to the north area so that all of Lanzarote knows that we exist," he said.
