The Police Headquarters has not yet officially confirmed the causes, nor whether they are related to a complaint and some conversations in which he was recorded.

Mayandía, dismissed as commissioner of the National Police of Arrecife due to "loss of confidence"

The commissioner of the National Police of Arrecife, Luis Mayandía, has been dismissed from his position and will be transferred to Madrid. The decision, according to unofficial sources told La Voz, has been taken by the Superior Headquarters of the National Police of Las Palmas "against the will" of Mayandía, and will take effect this Friday.

Apparently, the alleged reason would be a "loss of confidence", although the Police have not yet confirmed the official causes of this dismissal. And they have not clarified, despite the consultation made by La Voz, whether it is related to a complaint that another official of the Police Station filed against Mayandía. That complaint, although it was archived, was accompanied by hours of conversations that the complainant recorded in the police station, in work meetings with Mayandía. And among them there would be expressions and messages that could be compromising.

Luis Mayandía was appointed commissioner of the National Police of Arrecife in February 2016, after his predecessor, Federico Teodoro Pérez, retired. Previously he was assigned to Madrid, where he was head of the Coordination and Operational Planning Unit. He also worked for years abroad as Interior Attaché at the Spanish Consulate in Tangier and Deputy Coordinator of the police cooperation center in Tangier-Med. In Spain, he also worked in the area of Immigration and detention centers.
