Citizen Alternative has presented a motion to the next plenary session of Arrecife, which will be held this Monday, to demand that "all its elements, especially the seats," be restored to the marquee of the bus stop in Pío XII square, in the Titerroy neighborhood. In this sense, the formation supports the position agreed upon by the residents of the neighborhood, who have collected more than 300 signatures to demand these seats.
This bench was removed, according to councilman Víctor Sanginés, because "it disturbed the rest of a neighbor", since "it was used by numerous young people to talk and make a scandal." However, Alternativa does not understand how solving a public disturbance problem creates another, because it "makes it impossible for public transport users in the neighborhood to remain seated" while waiting for the bus.
"People, especially the elderly or those with difficulties standing, find themselves in the unpleasant situation of having to move to the opposite side of the street and remain seated on the walls of the square while waiting for the bus. The most unusual thing, which should embarrass the mayor, Manuel Fajardo, is seeing the leaders of the Titerroy Neighborhood Association placing chairs in the marquee every morning so that public transport users can remain comfortably seated," says Alternativa.
The formation "does not see it as logical" that the mayor, who was the one who "personally made the decision to remove the seats from the marquee", does not solve a problem of "vandalism or public noise" with a greater presence of the Local Police. On the contrary, according to Alternativa, he opts for the removal of the seats, "without taking into account that the possible troublemakers are not the users of public transport".
"If we intend to encourage the use of public transport by the residents, what is not understandable is that it is the city council itself that is dedicated to hindering the use and enjoyment of it by the users", denounces Alternativa.
