The Councilor of the Local Police of the Arrecife City Council, Jacobo Lemes, has announced that the City Council is working on “several projects” to end traffic violations on the maritime avenue, one of them being the installation of a camera with license plate reading, to be able to identify the vehicles that circulate in the prohibited direction.
It should be remembered that at present, the maritime avenue of Arrecife is passable for vehicles in a single direction, from El Reducto beach towards the Arrecife City Council, while the opposite direction is restricted only to authorized vehicles, such as residents or security and emergency bodies.
However, the reality is different, and there are many vehicles that violate the rule and circulate in the prohibited direction. “I am not going to deny it, because it is something very obvious”, admits the Councilor of the Local Police, Jacobo Lemes, who even affirms that there are more vehicles that circulate "against than in favor".
“The Local Police in a morning covers schools, accidents, calls from fords, gender violence… and when possible, a control is carried out”, the councilor points out, thus justifying the lack of agents in the area. “We do not have the capacity to put a policeman 24 hours a day at the mouth of the dock”, he adds.
The councilor maintains that those projects in which the City Council is working "will take time", although he assures that if they are put into operation "they can correct the influx of vehicles on the maritime avenue".
