The Arrecife City Council has been carrying out work this week to beautify the area around the small roundabout next to El Reducto beach. It features the sculpture designed by César Manrique called Barlovento, created by the artist from Lanzarote in the 1970s for the old Parque Islas Canarias, and which, after the remodeling of this park, was moved to Avenida Mancomunidad, in the capital of Lanzarote.
The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, was this morning in this area of Arrecife where work has begun to "replace the old concrete curbs with new ones, created in volcanic quarry stone, reused after the modernization works of a section of Avenida Fred Olsen", next to the main beach of the capital of Lanzarote. The cactus garden area will be taken care of, where Manrique collaborators from the Tourist Centers intervened, and the city council will reinforce the night lighting.
The mayor has detailed that the City Council has in place a "plan to value and highlight all the spatial artistic work created by César Manrique", favorite son of Arrecife and Lanzarote. Along with the beautification of this roundabout, projects are underway for the integral rehabilitation of Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, Plaza de Las Palmas (next to the church of San Ginés) and the recovery of the waterfall in the Charco de San Ginés. In both public spaces, the artistic footprint of César Manrique is present, which the Municipal Government group led by Mayor Yonathan de León, wishes to "preserve with its global restoration", they have detailed.
The beautification and installation work of the new enclosure of this roundabout are carried out by the company awarded the modernization work of the urban image of a section of Avenida Fred Olsen, whose completion is scheduled before the end of next June.
After the installation of these new curbs, manufactured with the reuse of the stone walls that existed in a section of the promenade next to El Reducto Beach, the construction company will proceed to the "resurfacing of the surrounding streets", including a section of Avenida Mancomunidad and the entire Valls de la Torre street, concluded the mayor of Arrecife.
