The Councilor for Commerce and Tourism of Arrecife, Armando Santana, has attacked the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, for "opening the market" of Mancha Blanca this Sunday, when the rest of the municipalities closed theirs "for what it means to be responsible." "This is not about four votes or a neighbor telling you how brave you are, this is about something much more serious, which is the health crisis and what an economic crisis is," he said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

"There are 32 people in the hospital, there are nine people fighting between life and death, and this is not about cheap town populism. We are here temporarily and we are talking about people who are losing their lives," added Santana, pointing to the "limit situation" that is being experienced in Lanzarote, which is at alert level 3.

In addition, Armando Santana has stated that already at the table of mayors and the president of the Cabildo, Machín was "warned" not to "open." "And the authority itself, the management of the Health area, recommends that the important thing is not to maintain groups of more than four people. Even a small child knows that," he pointed out.

Therefore, given also the "much experience" and the "common sense" that he considers Jesús Machín has, he has stated that he "finds it hard to believe that a mayor takes this direction to look good with a neighbor or to win four votes in an election." "When one has a position of responsibility in an administration, one has to be responsible," said Armando Santana, who has also stated that "this is not the first time it has happened." "It also happened when they closed the Arrecife market for two weekends and in Tinajo it was opened without any problem," he specified.

However, the Councilor for Commerce and Tourism of Arrecife has stated that he does not want to take the political debate to a "rancid debate, to a discussion" between the mayor of Tinajo and him. "What we should ask ourselves is what the table of mayors and the president of the Cabildo think and what the management of the health area thinks, because what is happening in Lanzarote is a tragedy," concluded Armando Santana.
