Dozens of neighbors and visitors participated in the south of Lanzarote in the events organized by the Yaiza City Council on the occasion of the celebration of Canary Islands Day, two days of tribute to the Islands and its people full of tradition, culture and sports. The acting mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, exalted this May 30 in the tourist town of Playa Blanca, during the solemn flag-raising ceremony, "the work, hospitality and multiculturalism of our people, values of this land that make the municipality and the Canary Islands great."
The institutional act was decorated by the accompaniment of the musical notes of the Yaiza Municipal Band that after the raising of flags offered a repertoire of eight pieces on the pedestrian street Limones under the direction of the teacher Giovanni Noda.
The southern commemoration also included in Playa Blanca the performance of the Rubicón de Yaiza Folk Group, which once again demonstrated with its touch and dance body why it is recognized as one of the reference folk groups of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.
Yaiza also gave prominence to the Canarian fight, very well represented by children and young people from the Playa Blanca School who offered an exhibition of the vernacular sport on the small beach of the town, there in that natural land of exceptional conditions where the quarry of fighters of the municipality that directs the manager - trainer Tomás Quesada trains.
The commemorative program of Canary Islands Day in Yaiza, however, began on Wednesday the 29th with an entertaining and participatory evening in the Plaza de Los Remedios in the town of Yaiza, enlivened by the performances of the Janubio, Los Salineros de La Hoya and Raíces parrandas, an evening of music, enyesque and fraternization enjoyed by neighbors dressed in typical costumes who danced non-stop. The Yaiza City Council congratulates all Canarians by birth and heart this May 30, recognizing their valuable contribution to the well-being of the Archipelago.
