After the reading of the proclamation by the Lanzarote timple player Benito Cabrera, the festivities in honor of San Marcial de Rubicón began in the southern town of Femés. The artist read an emotional text full of memories of his childhood in this town.
Among those present were the mayor of the municipality of Yaiza, Ángel Domínguez, the Canarian parliamentarian Mario Pérez, the first deputy mayor Leonardo Rodríguez and several councilors of the Consistory.
The festivities in honor of the patron saint of the island of Lanzarote will last until July 10, and the program includes the Canarian Dance with performances by the Los Salineros de la Hoya and El Golpito musical groups, the IV edition of the San Marcial de Rubicón 2010 Soloists Meeting, as well as the Femés 2010 fashion show, by the elders of the town.
Regarding the religious events, the traditional Procession Function will be held in honor of San Marcial on July 7 at 7:00 p.m., and on the same day the pilgrims' masses will take place.
