The Security and Emergency Consortium of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has made public its recommendations for the pilgrimage of Los Dolores that will take place this Saturday, September 10. The advice, although also aimed at drivers, places special emphasis on walkers making the traditional pilgrimage to the hermitage.

The Consortium recommends that they "eat and hydrate frequently", as well as "carry plenty of water and foods rich in glucose". It also advises to "rest when needed to avoid exhaustion" and to "use comfortable shoes and wear breathable warm clothing and sun protection garments".

To guarantee their safety on the roads they walk on, the Consortium reminds pilgrims that on the road they must walk on the left, "so that they can see and be seen by approaching vehicles", as well as walk on the shoulder whenever possible. If this "does not exist or is impassable" it advises them to "circulate on the road, as close as possible to the edge". Similarly, it has asked pilgrims who walk in groups to do so in single file, one person behind another.

"Outside the town, between sunset and sunrise, or under weather conditions that reduce visibility, pedestrians must be provided with some approved luminous or retro-reflective element and try to wear light-colored clothing to be as visible as possible to drivers," continues the Emergency Consortium.

"It is recalled that road users are obliged to behave in a way that does not unduly hinder traffic or cause unnecessary danger, damage or inconvenience to other people or to public or private property," continues the Cabildo entity coordinated by Echedey Eugenio.

Finally, the Security and Emergency Consortium has asked drivers to "take extreme precautions when driving, during this week, and especially on September 10".
