The Department of Social Services is organizing a food drive this weekend in response to the "social emergency situation" on the island, according to the councilor of the area, Emilia Perdomo. The collection will take place in the Thematic Park on Saturday throughout the day and on Sunday afternoon and will be distributed among the offices of the Parish Caritas of the neighborhoods and in Calor y Café, the soup kitchen of Sor Ana.

"We have entire families who are on the verge of eviction or who have been evicted, who are receiving 400 euros from unemployment benefits and who have children and no food at home," explains Emilia Perdomo.

To solve the crisis that harms families, the councilor has proposed as solutions the allocation of "low-cost housing and aid from the Government and from the Cabildo to be able to pay rents and food, which is what families need".

Faced with these solutions, she continues to rule out the social shelter, since "its characteristics would be to host people from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and this would be useful for people who are alone on the street, but not for families, because they would have to take the children away so that the adults could sleep," she said.
