The six groups classified for the Grand Final that was held this Friday at the Arrecife Fairgrounds pulled out their definitive ace in the hole, in the form of a song, to convince the jury. They performed one of the pieces they had already staged during the contest phases and incorporated a new composition into the repertoire. Nerves, displays of solidarity with the groups affected by the controversy over the lyrics, and more criticism, corrosive, to the current Government group that Enrique Pérez Parrilla received with a stoically sustained gesture, from the armchair. "Los Tabletuos" managed to be recognized as the Best group for the second year in a row, in this twentieth edition, and appeared on stage, leap by leap, to receive the final ovation from the public that put an end to this year's group competition.
The intervention of the Afilarmónica "Las Revoltosas", as an invited group and honored for their silver anniversary in the Carnival, gave way to the contest that, by draw, corresponded to "Los Simplones" to open. The novelty was brought by Marcial, a hairdresser from Tinajo with "Spit Marcelo, you've swallowed a hair, Pluf Pluf, damn it!" and although they didn't win the prize, they promised to return with "humor and fun". "I won't change my style even if I don't win prizes, my Carnivals are above all else".
"Los Gorfines", second finalists of the night, got into the life of "Kiko" and the hardships he goes through to make ends meet in Lanzarote. An ode to the thousand-euro earners and their heroic attitude to live with empty pockets.
The Virgin of Sorrows brought luck to "Los Tabletuos" who won the first prize after performing "We're going on a pilgrimage, ia ia ia". A diatribe on the way the traditional festival is currently celebrated, which has become, according to them, a carnival act. They won the applause of the public and the unanimous recognition of the entire jury to be the best group this year.
"Los Inadaptados" dedicated their performance to their colleagues, "Las Inadaptadas", who this time have not been able to enter the final. "My criticism and my tribute", as a new composition, preceded "One for the crazy ones, my treat" in which, as in the third phase of the contest, they made the public delirious.
The third finalists, "Los Desahuciados", arrived incisive with their lyrics, directed at the capital Corporation, and with their reprimand towards the criticisms that "Los Intoxicados" have received for their lyrics, described as "racist". They also admonished those who accused them of offending a group. "They are disgusting, truly disgusting", commented their director towards "the people who talk too much". "Humor on the grill" made it clear that they were "burned out" with what had happened.
The only female group that has made it to the final, "Las Arretrancas" sang "With interrogation, this is the reality" and harshly highlighted the reality of women and children who are mistreated and murdered by "unnameables". With "Who will benefit if this plan succeeds" they made the defenders of the Arrecife General Plan blush.
The distribution of awards to all those recognized: in Presentation, "Los Gorfines" and "Ladys Golosinas", with the second and third prize, respectively; and "Ladys Golosina" and "Las Arretrancas", the second and third prize for Design and Costumes, the night was fading away. Los Tabletuos collected all the first prizes and therefore will be in charge of courting Doña Sardina next Ash Wednesday.
