Lorenzo Lemaur took office last weekend as the new president of the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife for the period 2022-2024. Lemaur's candidacy was the only one presented for the elections, so the vote was not held and the only candidate was proclaimed president.

“I want to express my gratitude to the members for the trust they have placed in me. I hope to live up to the challenge before me, together with my Board of Directors,” Lemaur said.

Lorenzo Lemaur assures that he will involve the members “in the intentions and projects that the Board of Directors intends to undertake”. “All this with the intention, which is also a challenge, that the Sociedad Democracia Arrecife recovers the splendor of times past,” he adds.

Once the new Board of Directors is formed, Lemaur maintains that he will convene an Extraordinary General Assembly to ask the members for “their referendum”. "In said Assembly, the Action Program for the period of trust that the General Assembly of members has granted us will be presented," he adds.

“In order to have the greatest possible closeness, my telephone and WhatsApp number is available to members, in addition to our social networks, which I am going to manage personally. We will promptly send you information on all events held at the Society's facilities, as well as any other matter of interest,” says the new president.

Likewise, Lorenzo Lemaur affirms that his intention, and that of the Board of Directors, is that the facilities “can host events of social, cultural, sports, business, professional, educational, political and union groups and organizations of Arrecife and Lanzarote”. Likewise, he intends to “establish collaboration agreements with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council so that the magnificent assembly hall can host cultural and institutional events.”

He also announces that from this week on, “all the dances” will be held in the social hall, enlivened by professionals and orchestras from the island. In addition, on the indicated dates of San Pedro, San Ginés, New Year's Eve and Carnivals, the Sociedad Democracia “will once again celebrate great dances with an orchestra.”

“Regaining the trust of young people”

Lorenzo Lemaur points out that, among the other challenges they propose for this mandate, they have a special interest “in regaining the trust of young people so that the Sociedad Democracia is their meeting, fun and celebration space.”

“Along these lines, we propose to create within the Society those sports sections that young people demand of us, such as table tennis, billiards, as well as recover the famous indoor soccer or dominoes championships,” says Lemaur.

He also points out the special interest in chess, in which he affirms that the Sociedad Democracia “has been a leader both in Lanzarote and in the Canary Islands”. “For this we are going to promote our Sociedad La Democracia Chess Club, and we are going to create our Social Chess School, both for children and adults,” he adds. It should be remembered that Lorenzo Lemaur was the island delegate of chess in Lanzarote, and that on May 26 he has a conciliation act in court after receiving a complaint for "insults" from chess player Nayra Barrera.

Lorenzo Lemaur also points out that the canasta championships “will continue to be one of the most important social and leisure activities for our women members”. Thus, it has been “the first activity that already has a calendar and program of championships, marathons and social events.”
