Handball player Antía Piñeiro from Lanzarote dies at 23 years old

Their teammates from the club have played with a black wristband this Saturday in memory of the player

The Zonzamas Yaizart Handball player, Antía Piñeiro, has passed away at the age of 23 in Lanzarote.

As reported by Zonzamas Balonmano in a statement, the athlete had already undergone two heart transplants and "never stopped fighting or believing." The club indicated that one of her biggest dreams was to play handball again, and this season she fulfilled it with "all her enthusiasm, with bravery, and a smile that said it all."

Zonzamas Balonmano has stated that these are very difficult days for them. Furthermore, they indicated that Antía is an example of overcoming adversity, of love for this sport, and of life.

Finally, they have conveyed all their love and a huge hug to her loved ones. While they have sent a message to Antía: "You will always be part of this family."

The mass will take place this Sunday, May 24, at 1:00 PM, at the Teguise Funeral Home and from there to the Enalta crematorium in Arrecife.
