The San Bartolomé City Council has come out to deny the information published by some media outlets throughout this past Wednesday that claimed the municipality had been pre-selected to be one of the towns that participate in the Grand Prix 2026, the historic television program that is broadcast on Radio Televisión Española.
The municipality of Lanzarote has assured that it has not carried out "any steps to participate". To which it added that the competition rules are aimed at municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, a requirement that the municipality does not meet.
This information has been published after the pre-selected towns to participate in a new edition of the program presented in the last season by Ramón García, Lalachus and Ángela Fernández became known.
The confusion seems to have occurred with one of the towns on the peninsula: San Bartolomé de la Torre, in the province of Huelva, which is really the one that has been pre-selected. In this way, it would have been confused with the municipality of San Bartolomé, which has not submitted its candidacy.
The past edition of summer 2025, a Canarian municipality was indeed presented, that of San Sebastián de La Gomera, which won the program. However, on this occasion there is no Canarian town among the pre-selected ones.
