The man who died this Monday in the Famara area while practicing hang gliding was an Andorran firefighter expert in this sport, who had participated in several national and international competitions. In fact, last week he competed in Lanzarote in the XXI International Open of the Canary Islands of Hang Gliding.
According to the newspaper La Provincia, the deceased is Toni Gràcia Armengol and although the Coordinating Center for Emergencies had reported that he was 32 years old, he would actually be 49. "He came alone and here he joined a group," he told La Voz from the Security Consortium.
It was the members of that group who raised the alarm at around 1 p.m. this Monday, when they saw that he did not land in the expected place, after launching with his hang glider from the Las Nieves area. After activating a search device, in which the GES helicopter participated, his body could be located next to the hang glider, although the health services could only confirm his death, which apparently would have occurred "on the spot" after the fall.
