More than 2,000 people have participated in the various activities of the ninth edition of Veintinueve Trece, held from November 11 to 16 in Lanzarote. The Photography and Visual Arts Encounter continues to exceed expectations year after year and reaffirms its philosophy of being an event designed by and for Lanzarote, both for professionals and the general public.
During the festival, revolving around tenderness, there were exhibition activities, conferences, audiovisual screenings, professional workshops, and the grand photography party as a culmination, designed for all audiences.
Throughout Saturday, the Plaza and the CIC El Almacén were the setting for an independent art and local creation market, children's photography workshops, the screening of a documentary for the elderly, a minute camera to capture family scenes in black and white, or Polaroid snapshots so that attendees could take away a memory of this special moment.
From morning until night, about a thousand people participated in this party open to all citizens with the aim of bringing the audiovisual world, from a professional and educational perspective, closer to the local population.
The week began with recognition of the professional career of the Canarian artist Teresa Correa. This Veintinueve Trece recognition is intended for people or groups whose work has enriched and valued the culture of the islands.
It continued with 'crossed process', a creative technique that produces unique results and that, when brought to the Encounter, consists of convening an unusual audience. The psychopedagogue Mar Romera, specialized in emotional intelligence, spoke about that filter that determines what we see, do, and hear: emotions. With tenderness as the central theme of this edition, Romera spoke of the need to work towards emotional excellence.
"The quality of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts, not on the circumstances; and my thoughts depend on the emotional platform from which I emit them," she explained to a room full of people, and added that "emotional excellence is trainable, it is only necessary to be aware of the what, the how, and the why."
Rafa Badía, co-protagonist of this 'crossed process', took a journey through the history of photography and tenderness, from the theoretical audiovisual point of view. On Wednesday, continuing with the activities aimed at the general public, the film Gunda was screened, in collaboration with Tenique Cultural, promoters of the Lanzarote Film Festival.
After the screening, the values promoted by this audiovisual piece were debated with the philosopher Óscar Horta and the director of the Film Festival, Javier Fuentes. The professional workshops, organized from Thursday to Saturday in different locations, once again sold out, with leading figures such as Laura Pannak, Samuel Aranda, Félix Bollaín, and León Romero, who in the afternoon were nourished by the contributions of Daniel L. Fleitas, Teresa Medina, Patricia Agüero, and Clara Asanza, in the conferences at the El Salinero Theater.
A comprehensive program that, year after year, is expanding the prestige of this Photography and Visual Arts Encounter in Lanzarote, unique of its kind in the Canary Islands and one of the five with the greatest projection at the national level.
