Last week, the Tenique Cultural association received nine unpublished collections of old images from the island for digitization, within the framework of the campaign linked to the Destiladera. Lanzarote revealed project. The films, recorded in 8 millimeters and super 8 during the 60's and 70's, contain scenes of the city of Arrecife from 60 years ago, excursions through the island territory and a soccer game from that time. In addition to content related to children's summer camps, sports practices, a speleological activity and family celebrations full of traditions and symbolism.
The president of Tenique Cultural, Javier Fuentes Feo, has expressed himself "enthusiastically about the important harvest of celluloid and very grateful to those who, aware of the ethnographic, historical and cultural value of these tapes, give them for their replica in electronic support, durable and easy to reproduce".
“More and more people recognize the value of these amateur pieces, superior to any other documentary format when it comes to reminding us who we were and how we lived and related in that past century, which today seems so far away”, he pointed out. And he added that: “it has been very nice to be able to digitize a large part of the material in front of those who brought us the films. When they saw them again on the screen, they told us their memories and were excited to see scenes again that they had not reviewed for several years”.
For his part, the audiovisual artist and restorer of old films, Salvi Vivancos, responsible for teaching the children's workshop Destiladera chinija: discovering cinema, hung the sold out sign last Saturday with 18 chinijos and chinijas willing to immerse themselves in the history and secrets of the exciting world of cinema.
The activity, designed for children between six and twelve years old and completely free, took place in the Music kiosk of the Ramírez Cerdá park in Arrecife.
