The tourism association of Lanzarote, Asolan, estimates that the Spanish tour operator Orizonia owes more than 1.5 million euros to accommodation and tourism establishments in Lanzarote. Therefore, the president of the association, Susana Pérez, has held different working meetings in recent days with the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT) and with the companies of Lanzarote, affected by the pre-bankruptcy of the tour operator.
Orizonia presented last February the pre-bankruptcy proceeding, which grants it four months to negotiate the refinancing of the debt, thus avoiding the definitive bankruptcy.
Faced with this situation of possible bankruptcy proceedings by Orizonia, which has already started selling its assets, Asolan has informed the sector of possible legal actions, both bankruptcy, commercial, civil or criminal, that could be brought against the companies of the Orizonia group. For this, it has had the collaboration of CEHAT and the legal services Tourism & Law.
Asolan has also reported on the legal actions that these companies from Lanzarote could take against the natural or legal persons that make up the administrative bodies of Orizonia. Thus, the "viability" of these complaints is being assessed, which "could be launched soon." In addition, Asolan has recalled that "these days it has become known that Orizonia sold the collection rights to the SPV Capital Funding Luxembourg fund last December to obtain liquidity".
For the summer, 40,000 fewer places
On the other hand, the president of Asolan expressed her concern about the impact that the "40,000 air seats that will remain in the air for the next summer season" will generate on the tourism sector of the island and the economy of Lanzarote. And these places were scheduled by Orizonia, through its airline Orbest.
Orizonia groups or has grouped Vibo Viajes (formerly Viajes Iberia), Iberojet, Solplan, Orbest, Luabay, Smilo, Kiruna, Viva Tours, Condor, Orizonia Live, Kaledoscopio, Vibo BCD Travel, among other companies linked to the tourism sector.
