Lanzarote airport records the lowest increase in passengers in the Canary Islands in May

After percentage increases in the double digits in 2023 and a good part of 2024, the growth in passengers at César Manrique is slowing down

Lanzarote airport reached 663,867 passengers in May, which is equivalent to 2.9% more than during the same month last year, according to data provided by Aena.

After percentage increases in double digits during 2023 and a good part of 2024, the growth in the number of passengers at César Manrique is finally slowing down. So much so that Lanzarote airport recorded the lowest growth in all of the Canary Islands last month.

The Gran Canaria Airport registered the highest number of passengers with 1,094,567, which represents 9.6% more than the same month of the previous year.

It is followed by the Tenerife South Airport, with 976,706 passengers, which represents an increase of 12.4% compared to May 2023; Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 574,798 (+10.6%); Fuerteventura, with 471,459 (+4.6%); La Palma, with 117,514 (+9.7%); El Hierro, with 25,418 (+5.1%) and La Gomera, with 10,040 (+7.4%).

Overall, the airports of the Canary Islands accounted for a total of 3,934,369 passengers during the month of May, thus exceeding the data from the same month of 2023 by 8.6%.

Of the total number of travelers registered last month, 3,918,675 corresponded to passengers on commercial flights, of which 1,823,931 flew on national routes, 9.9% more than in May of last year, and 2,094,744 on international routes, 8% more.

In addition, 36,808 aircraft movements were managed, 8.9% more than in the same month of 2023, and 2,737 tons of transported goods were recorded, 12.1% more.

So far this year, the Canary Islands airports have registered 21,795,270 travelers, 9.9% more than in the same period last year.
Of the 21,635,981 commercial passengers, 8,315,913 traveled on national flights, 8.8% more, and 13,320,068 did so on international flights, 11.3% more than in the same accumulated period of 2023.
